MIREIA PALM SUGAR “GULA AREN”

Gula Aren is produced by tapping the sap from the inflorescence of the Aren Palm (arenga pinnata) tree, the best quality palm sugar. To turn it into sugar, the sap strained to remove dirt, boiled until it become syrup and poured into a mold then left to be hardened.

To produce crystalline palm sugar, the boiled sap is not simply poured into a mold but it stirred until it become granules. Palm sugar is believed to be more nutritious than sugar extracted from sugarcane. It contains calcium phosphor, iron, and even protein and fat, which are not present in sugarcane sugar.

MIREIA VANILLA SUGAR

Vanilla sugar is made of sugar and vanilla beans or sugar mixed with vanilla extract. Vanilla sugar in baking can be utilised in a variety of desserts; from apple pies, snicker doodles and crème brûlée to light and airy pavlova’s. Vanilla sugar can even be used in savory recipes to give a slight sweetness to acidic foods such as barbecue sauce and vinaigrette.

This sugar (gula aren) is regarded as more fragrant and richer than gula kelapa – and it is both less common and more expensive. Vanilla sugar is simple enough. It’s simply granulated sugar, infused with vanilla from the beans
